June is Audiobook Month, a time to celebrate the evolution of literature and the convenience that audio books bring to the world of reading. With the busy schedules and fast-paced lifestyles that many people lead, listening to audio books has become an accessible and enjoyable way for readers to indulge in their literary passions.

It all began with Thomas Edison in 1877 when he invented the phonograph, a device that could record and playback sound. Although Edison intended for it to be used for dictation and business purposes, it didn't take long for people to begin recording literary works. In 1932, Books on Tape was established and soon became a popular way for blind and visually impaired individuals to enjoy literature on their own.

Today, audiobooks come in various formats including downloadable digital files, and even streaming services. They have become more than just a tool for the visually impaired. They have become a way for people to escape their daily routines, relax, and enjoy some leisure time.

The convenience of audiobooks is unmatched. From the weary traveler on a long flight to the busy professional who wants to catch up on books during their commute, audiobooks make literature accessible anytime, anywhere. They also offer a great alternative for those who struggle with traditional reading due to dyslexia or other learning disabilities.

Audio books are not only an easy and convenient way to enjoy literature, but they are also beneficial in many ways. Listening to audiobooks can help stave off boredom and help pass the time during tasks such as exercising, cooking, or cleaning. They can also help improve focus and retention for those who listen while working or studying.

To celebrate the Audiobook month all you have to do is to find a new book or your favorite book in audible format and start listening!

Personal stories of people who have benefitted from audiobooks only add to the appeal. I wrote about my personal health journey in my book "7 Healthy Gut Habits for Women Over 40". And it's now available on Audible! So, if you haven't read it yet, it's now time to listen to it!

Audiobooks have come a long way since their inception with the phonograph. They have become an accessible and enjoyable way for people to consume literature and can be of immense value to anyone looking for a convenient way to explore their literary passions. So, why not add audiobooks to your reading repertoire this June and celebrate Audiobook Month with your headphones on and a new adventure at your fingertips?
